The Brit Awards Nominees, Announced 16 January 2007

The 2007 Brit Awards will be hosted by Russell Brand and will be broadcast live for the first time since 1989. Now the 1989 Brit Awards has become a legend in television history for a number of reasons and none of them good!!

The Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood Debacle (1989)

Piss poor preparation, a broken autocue, complete ineptitude and just the plain inexperience of the presenters lead to them continually fluffing their lines, reading each others lines, talking over the top of each other and lots of other basic errors.. Also a pre-recorded message from Michael Jackson was never broadcast. The following is a short bout of painful dialogue which went out live during the ill-fated show featuring Boy George and Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies.

Sam Fox: (with a fixed beaming smile) …and the winner is...

Celebrity (Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies} presenting the award : (looking panicked) aren't you going to read out the nominations first?

Sam Fox: (with a determined look) …here they are … the FOUR TOPS...

At which point Boy George appears from backstage looking self-conscious.

Boy George: (with an apologetic smile) I'm afraid I'm just the one top...”

Johnny Depp is amongst those presenting awards as is Robbie Williams who has been asked to present an award to, “Take That” should they win the category, which should be interesting as Robbie Williams has previously shunned all previous attempts to re-unite all the members of Take That.
