The Rogue Traders are an electro-rock group from Australia .
The live band consists of James Ash (Keyboards), Timothy Henwood (Guitars), Cameron McGlinchey (Drums) and Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Lead Vocals).
The group's original members (James Ash, Steve Davis) met in London in 1989. But before forming Rogue Traders, Ash and Davis worked together on many projects, most notably as dance act Union State . Davis still contributes to the band and still plays an active part in the songwriting process.
In 2003 Rogue Traders (James Ash, Steve Davis) released their debut album We Know What You're Up To.
Their debut single "Need You To Show Me" did not enter the Top 100 but reached #16 on the ARIA Top 40 Club Chart.
The second single released from the album, "Give In To Me", was a minor Australian ARIAnet top 100 chart single peaking at #67.
However, their third single was a lot more successful.
They remixed/covered INXS's "Need You Tonight", renaming it "One Of My Kind".
The track peaked at #10 in Australia -- giving them the recognition they needed. A fourth single, "Stay?", gave them another minor top 100 chart single peaking at #60. The Rogue Traders won an ARIA award for Best Dance Track for the song "One Of My Kind". They were nominated for two APRA awards in 2003 for "Give In To Me" and in 2004 for "One Of My Kind" but lost in both years.

Rogue Traders returned with a vengeance in 2005, with their new album, “Here Come The Drums.”
A sparkling new contract with music giant SonyBMG and also with new band member Neighbours' Natalie Bassingthwaighte. The first single "Voodoo Child", reached number #4 in Australia, and #7 in New Zealand (their biggest hit yet).
The second single from the album, "Way To Go" reached #7 in Australia , while "Watching You", which was their second single to reach the top 5, peaked at #5 in Australia . Like many other modern music acts, the Rogue Traders use elements of old songs in their music.
However, rather than sampling the original songs, they re-record the relevant parts. "Voodoo Child" contains a re-recorded riff from "Pump It Up" by Elvis Costello. "Watching You" contains re-recorded elements of "My Sharona" by The Knack.
Natalie Bassingthwaighte : Since 2004 she has been the lead singer of Australian rock group Rogue Traders, a band which had some limited success in the years before she joined.
Natalie first auditioned along with several other musicians and succeeded in promptly being offered the lead. At first the band seemed keen to keep Natalie's involvement in the Rogue Traders close to their chests, and it wasn't until the band's first single release (Voodoo Child) with Natalie on board that the general public were made aware of Natalie's new role as lead singer.
Rogue Traders won the 2006 MTV Australian Video Music Award for Best Video for "Voodoo Child".
Rogue Traders released their second album Here Come The Drums again, as a Limited Edition 2 CD Remix Set. The second CD contained remixes from all their smash singles and the album included new artwork.
It was released on June 10th, the same day of their 4th single "We're Coming Home." On June 18, 2006, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and James Ash announced on Video Hits that the band is currently in the process of writing their third studio recorded album.
Electro-Glam-Rock : With its warped, insistent Hammond organ riff and singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte's cracked, rock snarl, 'Voodoo Child' is already a classic in the. But for Rogue Traders, this particular tune was always more than just a single. "It was a signpost for the album", says Rogue Trader James Ash.
No longer just a dance act, the Rogue Traders have evolved on, “Here Come The Drums,” with a new look, a new member - singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte - and a completely new sound.
An inspired, in-your-face electro-punk and pop journey, 'Here Come The Drums,” yakes the best parts of the guitar rock energy of young British acts like the Bloc Party, melds it with the glam-tinged 80s pop-smarts of Blondie, Roxy Music and Gary Numan then holds it together with the punk rock snarl of the Sex Pistols.
"We love our rock music and we love our electronic music and on this album we're meeting right in the middle" , says Ash. "We're making music that will work on the dance floor and on radio. We're not afraid to have a pop influence, but we also wanted attitude. So that's why I'd say the Sex Pistols are the single biggest influence on the album. They were about energy and it's exciting to listen to them".
The debut album had four different vocalists, “Here Come The Drums” (with the exception of 'Casting Aside' which is sung by Ash) is the vocal sound of Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
Vampish, exuding charisma, oozing with sexual prowess, spontaneous and inspired, Bassingthwaighte snarls, seduces teases and taunts with a rawness that is rarely evident in today's pop world.
"I wanted to bring my personality into the band," says Bassingthwaighte. "I wanted to colour it, to make it very rock, but also make the vocals very character based. I can be very outrageous, and the songs let me go out there and just explode".
- “Here Come The Drums,” is now confirmed for a huge European release.
- The smash hit single 'Voodoo Child' from the Rogue Traders' triple-platinum album 'Here Come The Drums' has debuted at No.3 on the UK singles chart.
- Following a ten day UK tour promoting the single and album (due for release July 24) 'Here Come The Drums' is now set for release in Belgium , the Netherlands and Luxembourg .
- The tour involved several super-charged performances on high profile TV shows including 'Popworld' and the last ever 'Top Of The Pops' show, with their European breakthrough secured by their scorching live gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire.
- Since its release in Australia in October 2005, 'Here Come The Drums' has produced four hit singles including 'Voodoo Child', 'Way To Go', 'Watching You' and the current hit single 'We're Coming Home'.
